Paços de Ferreira play in the Portuguese First Divison. They were founded in 1950, after changing their name from Futebol Clube Vasco da Gama to Futebol Clube Paços de Ferreira. The club spent their early years in the lower leagues of Portugal, but reached the UEFA Cup after finishing 6th in the 2006-2007 season. They then finished last in the division the next season, but avoided relegation after Boavista FC were penalised due to financial irregularities. They are currently 3rd in the Portuguese division, four points above SC Braga, and if they maintain their position, they will qualify for the UEFA Champions League play offs.
Os Pacenses are based in Paços de Ferreira, Porto district. The municipality is sometimes referred to as the Capital do Móvel (capital of furniture), due to IKEA’s Portuguese headquarters being there. There are many great walking spots, making it a great place for hikers. If you walk up the top of Pilar, there are stunning views of the city of Porto. Be careful not to enter the military radar site though!
They play their games at Estádio da Mata Real, which holds 5,172 fans.
